Humans aren’t the only ones deserving of a tasty treat, right? Here are a few simple recipes for homemade dog treats.

Remember, always check with your vet before introducing new food items into your pet’s diet. These recipes are generally safe for dogs, but individual animals may have different dietary needs or restrictions!

1. Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups of whole grain flour (ensure it’s safe for dogs, such as rice or oat flour)
  • Half a cup of canned pumpkin (ensure it’s pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix)
  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (make sure it’s xylitol-free)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup of water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix until a dough forms. If it’s too dry, add a little more water.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out treats using a cookie cutter.
  4. Place treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until treats are hard.
  6. Allow them to cool before giving to your pup, and store the rest in an airtight container.

2. Chicken and Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 1 sweet potato, cooked and mashed
  • 1.5 cups of whole grain flour
  • 1 cup of shredded cooked chicken
  • 1 egg

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl until a dough forms.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out treats using a cookie cutter.
  4. Place treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  6. Let them cool before treating your dog, and store leftovers in an airtight container.

3. Apple and Oat Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of oat flour
  • 1/2 cup of oats
  • 1 apple, finely chopped or grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup of coconut oil, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the oat flour and oats.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the finely chopped or grated apple and melted coconut oil.
  4. Combine the dry and wet ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out treats using a cookie cutter.
  6. Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the treats are golden brown.
  8. Let them cool before giving them to your dog and store leftovers in an airtight container.
